Ryan Giggs has signed a one-year contract extension which will keep him at Manchester United until June 2010, the Premier League leaders said yesterday.

"I feel fit and I'm enjoying my football more than ever,"

Giggs, the most decorated player in English football, told www.manutd.com.

"This is an exciting young team and the spirit is great in the dressing room. I want to be a part of that and achieve even more success."

United manager Alex Ferguson described Giggs, now 35, as a true professional.

"His lifestyle, the way he looks after himself, his desire to always want to win is a credit to him and also an inspiration to any young kid who wants to become a footballer," Ferguson said.

King charged with nightclub assault

Jamaican international Marlon King has been charged with sexually assaulting and then attacking a young woman in a London bar, police said yesterday.

The 28-year-old Wigan Athletic striker, who is on loan to Middlesbrough, was bailed to appear at City of Westminster magistrates court later this month.

The unnamed, 20-year-old woman was treated for a broken nose and split lip after an incident at the Soho Revue Bar in early December.

King was on loan to Hull City at the time.

Hiddink hints at longer Chelsea stay

Guus Hiddink is not ruling out the possibility of staying on as Chelsea manager beyond the end of the season.

The Dutchman was confirmed as Luiz Felipe Scolari's successor on Wednesday but only on a short-term deal, so as not to undermine his role as Russia coach.

But Hiddink has fuelled speculation over his future by declaring any decision will be made at the end of the season.

"Let's not predict for such a long time," he said. "I have no such thoughts as we talked only about the work till the end of the season. When we reach the end of the season we will talk about it.

"And who knows maybe this story with Chelsea will get its continuation."

Agger wants regular football at Anfield

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is prepared to leave the club if he fails to earn a regular place in the team.

The 24-year-old Denmark international has failed to agree terms on a contract extension with the club and was recently linked with a move to Milan.

"Let me be honest and admit that, if I don't play, then it's untenable and it can't go on like that," Agger told Sporten.dk.

"It's never nice for a footballer to not play regularly. That is something I will not hide. But my situation at the club is that he (Benitez) doesn't want to let me play.

"So far I have opted to stay and fight for my place."

Kranjcar keen to join bigger club

Niko Kranjcar hopes to quit Portsmouth and move to a "bigger club" over the summer.

Injuries have prevented the Croatian international from playing a leading role in Portsmouth's battle to stay in the Premier League this season.

Kranjcar has now revealed that he intends to join the exodus of stars out of Fratton Park in the near future, with Arsenal and Monaco believed to be interested in signing him.

"It was always my intention to move to a bigger club, it is always like that in your career," the talented playmaker said.

"If an offer came from a larger club, of course I would want to go."

Secco secures new Juve deal

Juventus have confirmed their faith in sporting director Alessio Secco by extending his contract until 2011.

Secco has been criticised for his transfer dealings in recent years after Tiago Mendes and Sergio Almiron failed to make an impact at Juventus. However, the signings of Amauri and Momo Sissoko have rescued Secco's reputation.

"Juventus have decided to renew Secco's contract as sporting director earlier than planned," club boss Jean-Claude Blanc said in a statement.

"During the last two and a half years Secco has shown his talents and professionalism.

"By consolidating his position, Juventus are able to give stability to the sporting project."

Mutu committed to Fiorentina

Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu is willing to stay with the club for the rest of his career.

The 30-year-old Romanian has been persistently linked with a move away from the Artemio Franchi and was on the verge of moving to Roma last summer.

"I will renew my contract (with Fiorentina)," Mutu told reporters when asked if he would remain with the Viola beyond his current deal, which expires in 2012.

Mutu said he was thankful to Fiorentina for helping him relaunch his career after Chelsea sacked him in 2004 for failing a drugs test.

"I went through hell, but I came out the other side. Thankfully, I got a second chance," he explained.
