Real Madrid have agreed to take French midfielder Julien Faubert on loan from West Ham United until the end of the season, the Spanish champions said.

The 25-year-old passed a medical and signed a contract with an option for a permanent three-year deal which can be exercised before the end of June.

Faubert will be presented at the Bernabeu tomorrow.

He is the Primera Liga side's third mid-season signing after they landed French midfielder Lassana Diarra and Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar.

Youth-team midfielder Dani Parejo has also been recalled from a loan spell and incorporated into the first team.

Lampard pondered quitting Chelsea

Frank Lampard revealed that he thought seriously of moving away from Chelsea last summer following the death of his mother.

The England midfielder was strongly linked with a switch to Inter, now coached by former Blues manager Jose Mourinho, as his contract negotiations went unresolved last summer.

"At one time last summer I was looking to move," he said.

"I just couldn't accept the idea of playing at Chelsea without looking up and seeing my mum in the stand. Even now it is a huge gap in my life and very hard to handle. That wasn't the answer, though.

"No disrespect to Inter, they are a great club and everybody knows what I think of Jose Mourinho, but if I had gone it would have been for the wrong reasons."

No Arsenal return for Upson

Matthew Upson has dismissed suggestions of a return to Arsenal as he is enjoying life under West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola.

The England defender has been linked with a return to the club he quit in 2003 as the Hammers look to balance the books.

"I'm happy to be putting down roots here," Upson said.

"The club pointed out their intentions at the start of the transfer window and, to be fair to them, they've pretty much stuck with them, which is impressive.

"It shows there is an intention for success at the club. I'm enjoying myself and all the other players are."

Napoli complete Datolo swoop

Napoli have completed the signing of Argentine sensation Jesus Datolo.

The former Boca Juniors player arrived in Milan on Friday to complete his £6m move and has already put pen to paper on a contract.

"I am so proud of this choice," Datolo said. "I have not yet spoken to Diego Armando Maradona, but I did speak with Ezequiel Lavezzi and German Denis.

"They told me all about Napoli and their passionate fans. I am very happy, as I'm going to play for the team that had Maradona."

Injured Totti out of Reggina trip

Roma captain Francesco Totti, who has only just returned to fitness after a thigh problem, will miss today's league game at Reggina with a sore back, the club said.

The former Italy international made a return to action in Wednesday's 2-1 win over Palermo after he was out for four weeks with a knee injury.

Julio Baptista, John Arne Riise and Simone Perrotta also miss out alongside long-term injury victim Marco Cassetti and want-away defender Christian Panucci.

Meanwhile, Roma have strenghtened their squad with the signing of Mali defender Souleymane Diamoutene on loan from Lecce with a view to a permanent deal.

Amauri named in Brazil squad

Italy's hopes of picking up Amauri in their national team ended yesterday after the Juventus forward was named by Brazil coach Carlos Dunga for next month's friendly against the world champions.

Amauri was born in Brazil, but is in the process of applying for Italian citizenship and said he would like to represent Italy on the international level.

However, any ambitions he might have to play for Italy are now over after he was named in the Brazil squad as a replacement for Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano who withdrew from the match through injury.

Dunga had not included Amauri in his original squad for the February 10 encounter at the Emirates stadium in London.

Hoffenheim interested in City's Jo

Manchester City striker Jo has emerged as a transfer target for Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.

The Brazil international has struggled to adapt to the Premier League since moving to England in the summer from CSKA Moscow.

A fine record in Russian football saw Jo command a fee in the region of £18million after 44 goals in 77 games caught City's eye.

However, it has not proved to be a productive move for either party, with Jo currently on the periphery of Mark Hughes' starting XI.

Hoffenheim have been alerted to Jo's possible availability and are keen to take him on loan until the end of the season, as they bid to keep on track their unexpected title tilt.
