Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon will not be leaving Juventus after media reports of a €75 million bid from Manchester City, the Serie A club said yesterday.

"Gigi is not for sale, he has no price and there have been no talks. There has been no offer from Manchester City for Buffon and there is no truth in these rumours," chief executive Jean-Claude Blanc said.

Premier League City lost goalkeeper Joe Hart due to injury last weekend and their new Abu Dhabi owners are planning a spending spree in the January transfer window.

Buffon said last week he would only leave Juve if a huge offer came in from a foreign club and the funds would help the club grow.

Berbatov calls for patience

There is no overnight cure for Bulgaria's poor international form but the media and fans should give the players and coach time to rediscover their best, the side's skipper Dimitar Berbatov said.

Coach Plamen Markov and most of the players, including Berbatov, received a barrage of criticism after the 6-1 defeat against Serbia last week.

"I fully realise the disappointment and the shame that fans are feeling following the national team players' poor performances recently," the Manchester United striker said.

"The problems are psychological and are probably caused by the recent negative results.

"I don't want to mislead anybody that pulling out of crisis will be done with a magic wand and you'll see a new team in the next match. We know a lot of work has to be done," he said.

Peru facing international ban

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has given Peru until tomorrow to end a long-running feud between the football federation (FPF) and the government or face an immediate international ban.

"The problem in Peru is that there is political intervention in the organisation of football," Blatter said.

"On Monday (tomorrow) we at FIFA need to receive an official document in which the government and the football federation agree to solve the problem in a period of 10 days.

"If we do not have this document by Monday the Peruvian federation will be suspended immediately."

Ferguson could recall Campbell

Manchester United Sir Alex Ferguson is considering the possibility of recalling young striker Frazier Campbell from his loan spell at Tottenham in January.

Campbell joined Spurs on transfer deadline day last summer as part of the deal that saw Dimitar Berbatov move north for a club record £30.75million fee.

Campbell has been given his chance by Harry Redknapp and scored three times in two games as Spurs' revival gathered pace.

"We could pull him back in January," said Ferguson. "We have the option and it is a possibility.

"He certainly made the most of the move as so far he has been brilliant."

Gerrard to stay at Liverpool

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has told the club he wants to sign a new contract when his current deal ends and intends to stay at the club for the rest of his career.

Gerrard made the announcement as he approaches the 10-year anniversary of his Liverpool debut this week. "I do not know what is going to happen over the next 10 years but certainly for the next five or six I hope I am playing in Liverpool's first team," he said.

"I have two and a half years left on my contract and hopefully I will sign another one and stay for the remainder of my career."

Lazio risk points penalty

Lazio are risking to be penalised with a points penalty if they don't pay the outstanding wages of Massimo Mutarelli by tomorrow, the player's manager warned.

Mutarelli has been at loggerheads with the Rome club since May when the Biancocelesti froze him out of the squad in a bid to offload him in the summer.

No club came to secure his services and the Italian federation has ruled that Mutarelli could terminate his contract and receive 20 per cent of his wages. Still so far, the club has yet to pay the player.

"The deadline for that reimbursement is November 23," lawyer Marco Ieradi said.

"If Lazio do not pay, then they risk serious sanctions, such as a points penalty for the current season. If they do not reimburse the player, then we have no other choice."

Hiddink backs under-fire Gomes

Dutch coach Guus Hiddink believes Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has to be patient with goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.

The Brazilian shot-stopper has come in for fierce criticism of late following a number of inept showings between the posts, including a costly error at Fulham last weekend which ultimately cost Spurs a point.

But Hiddink insists he just needs time to adjust to English football.

"I'm very surprised to hear things have not been going so well but in his first six months at PSV he needed time to adapt," Hiddink said.

"He must be given some time in England where the game is different again. He is a world-class keeper."
