Paul Jewell, the Derby County manager, said that midfielder Robbie Savage is free to leave on loan after losing his place at Pride Park.

Savage, 33, has been omitted from Derby's squad for the last five games. The last time he played was in the 1-0 home defeat by Southampton on August 23.

"Robbie's agent rang me and asked would we consider loaning him out, and I said yes," Jewell said.

"He is not in the team. He wants to play football and he is one of the players who will be available for loan."

Savage's wages could prove a stumbling block in any possible move. The Wales international signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Derby on January 9 following a £1.5 million transfer from Blackburn.

Zico to coach Uzbek club

Former Fenerbahce and Japan coach Zico has agreed terms to take over at Uzbek club Bunyodkor.

"There is a verbal agreement with the directors of the club and I am leaving today (Monday) to sign the contract," Zico said.

"I prefer to give the other details once I get there."

Zico, regarded as one of Brazil's greatest players, led Japan at the 2006 World Cup where they were knocked out in the group stage and took Fenerbahce to last season's Champions League quarter-finals.

Bunyodkor, who changed their name from Kuruvchi earlier this year, also signed Brazilian 2002 World Cup winner Rivaldo from AEK Athens in August.

Ronaldo plays for Flamengo youths

Ronaldo continued with his rehabilitation programme and figured in a friendly match for Flamengo's youth team this week.

The 32-year-old is looking to relaunch his career after rupturing the tendon in his knee during Milan's game against Livorno last February. His contract at the San Siro expired at the end of June and there were no talks over a renewal. Ronaldo, however, wants to play again and earlier this month he was linked with a move to Paris SG and Manchester City.

"It was marvellous to be back playing with a football again," he told O Globo.

"It has been an added motivation to be playing the game again after so much work off the pitch."

Dalglish rules out Toon return

Kenny Dalglish will not make a return to Newcastle United. Recent reports have suggested that Dalglish, a former Newcastle manager, was among those mentioned to replace Kevin Keegan at St James' Park.

Dalglish, who spent less than two years in charge at Newcastle between January 1997 and August 1998, has ruled out any return to Tyneside.

"Nobody from the club has contacted me and I won't be returning," Dalglish said.

"It's sad that things have gone wrong at Newcastle, but the next manager will not be me."

Anderson cleared of wrongdoing

A drug dealer almost got Anderson, in trouble as the notorious criminal was arrested at the home of the Manchester United midfielder.

Richard Alex da Silva Martins was detained after a year-long investigation, but Public Ministry official Ricardo Herbstrich stressed Anderson was not involved in the case.

Herbstrich, who led the operation in Porto Alegre, said: "There is nothing against Anderson in this investigation.

"According to what we have, he is just a friend of the dealer and maybe he doesn't even know he is a criminal."

Anderson's agent said: "The only thing I can say is that Anderson, as well as any other person, can be a friend of whoever he wants, but he is not involved in any crime."

Pompey give up on Appiah

Portsmouth are out of the race to sign Stephen Appiah. Manager Harry Redknapp was showing keen interest in the Ghana international after the latter negotiated his release from Fenerbahce in summer.

Despite being a free agent, Redknapp believes Appiah would still be too pricey for Portsmouth due to his personal demands.

"I doubt it very much whether he will be coming to us," Redknapp said.

"He's going to be expensive. He's going to want big, big wages, so it will be difficult.

"I have got a squad and we've spent money to do that. The owner has been great. But we're not planning to do anything else now."

Andrade set to leave Juventus

Portuguese defender Jorge Andrade is set to leave Juventus as reports said the two parties are close to reaching an agreement to end the contract. Injury-prone Andrade signed for Juve last year from Deportivo for £8m.

After just four league appearances, Andrade fractured a kneecap in September 2007 and has been out of action since.

Just as it seemed that Andrade was ready to return to action this July, he suffered a repeat of the same injury in training.

Andrade's contract contains a clause that allows the unilateral conclusion of his contract in the event he is ruled out of action for more than six months.
