Tottenham Hotspur manager Juande Ramos has not had any discussions with Barcelona over Dimitar Berbatov but hinted that the Bulgarian could still leave.

Berbatov has been at the centre of much transfer speculation over the summer with Manchester United and now Barcelona said to be interested, but Ramos insisted that the Spanish club have not made an official bid for the highly-rated striker.

"Nobody from Barca has asked me about Berbatov. There has been no movement on that front. All I know is what I read in the papers," he told Sport.

"We will have to wait and see what happens. It is a question of waiting a bit more and then we will see how things turn out."

'Ronaldo's future is with United'

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson believes Cristiano Ronaldo has a long-term future at Old Trafford. After a summer of speculation concerning a possible move to Real Madrid, the Portugal winger confirmed on Wednesday that he would stay at United for at least the coming season.

Ferguson is confident, however, that Ronaldo will remain committed to the Premier League and Champions League winners for longer and is keen to extend the 23-year-old's contract at some stage.

"He has explained himself perfectly from my perspective and the matter is closed," Ferguson said yesterday.

" He's happy to be a Manchester United player. It's just the unfortunate participation of Real Madrid in the boy's life that has made it difficult for him."

Roma target double swoop

Roma are still in negotiations with Real Madrid to acquire striker Julio Baptista and they could use their trip to London this weekend to broker a deal for Florent Malouda, according to reports from Italy.

Roma play Tottenham at White Hart Lane tomorrow and the club's sporting director Daniele Pradè has plans to meet Blues director general Peter Kenyon this weekend.

Malouda has made it clear that he is open to the move, but Chelsea may not let the French international leave unless they succeed in luring Robinho from Real Madrid.

Aston Villa sign Shorey, Young

Aston Villa have bolstered their defensive ranks after completing the double signing of Luke Young and Nicky Shorey.

Young follows in the footsteps of Shorey, formerly of Reading, in agreeing personal terms at Villa Park, signing a three-year deal.

Martin O'Neill had been on the look-out for a right-back following Olof Mellberg's move to Juventus and has now landed his man after luring England international Young from Middlesbrough.

"This was too good an opportunity to miss," Young told the club's official website.

"I'm pleased to be here at Villa."

Robinho unhappy with Real treatment

Brazil forward Robinho (picture) is upset that Real Madrid do not seem to value him, the player's agent said yesterday.

The 24-year-old international has been linked with a move to Chelsea throughout the close season and that interest turned into a formal offer from the Premier League side on Thursday.

"Robinho is very angry about the way he has been treated by the directors of Real Madrid," Wagner Ribeiro told sports daily Marca. "He calls me every day to see if anyone has said anything about his future and I have to tell him no one will speak to me.

"I've spent three days trying to contact them and they seem to have disappeared."

Reyes joins Benfica on loan

Spain winger Jose Antonio Reyes has joined Benfica from Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan, the Lisbon club said on their website.

The 24-year-old Reyes, who has 21 caps, joined Atletico last season after spells at Arsenal and Real Madrid.

Benfica have already bought a 25 per cent stake of the 24-year-old winger's playing registration, and Reyes was looking forward to his new challenge in the Portuguese capital.

"I am here to win the championship as I want to win titles," he said. "Benfica is a great club who has been signing very good players recently. I want to demonstrate why the club took a punt on me."

British team for 2012 Games

Britain will definitely field a team in the men's football tournament at the 2012 London Olympics even without the backing of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, the English FA's chief executive has said.

"Do I think we should have a team representing football in the 2012 Olympics? Yes," Brian Barwick told the BBC.

Britain, champions in 1908 and 1912, have not played in the men's Olympic finals since 1960 and have never entered a women's team because of concerns that the independent status of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland could be compromised.
