Andrei Arshavin cannot wait to complete his move to Tottenham, his agent has said.

Dennis Lachter admitted the Russian was hesitant about joining Tottenham when their interest first emerged but he has been won over by Spurs, and their coach Juande Ramos.

"Andrei is ready to move to Tottenham, now it just depends on Zenit," Lachter said.

"Arshavin changed his decision (about joining Spurs) due to excellent interest from Spurs and their coach Ramos."

Reports in Russia suggest Zenit want to keep Arshavin for the European Super Cup clash with Man. United on August 29 in Monaco.

But Lachter said Arshavin does not want the deal to be delayed until the end of the month.

Rooney questioned over spitting row

Wayne Rooney was interviewed by police after allegedly spitting at a paparazzi photographer, Scotland Yard said yesterday.

The Manchester United forward was questioned under caution after the incident near London's Oxford Street on Tuesday evening.

The 22-year-old was reportedly leaving a restaurant with his new wife Coleen.

Rooney was spoken to by the police at a neutral venue after a third party made the complaint shortly afterwards.

In law, deliberately spitting at someone is an offence of common assault.

Johnson's Fulham move stalls

Andrew Johnson's proposed move from Everton to Fulham has reportedly hit a snag because of a hitch in his medical.

Fulham struck a deal with Everton for Johnson earlier this week and the England international had a medical at Craven Cottage.

The move was expected to be finalised within 24 hours, but the medical is believed to have shown up an old knee injury which has raised concerns with Fulham officials, according to skysports.com.

Both clubs remain in discussions as they try to reach a satisfactory agreement for both parties.

Lehmann warning for Adebayor

Jens Lehmann has urged Emmanuel Adebayor not to turn his back on Arsenal.

Adebayor, Arsenal's top scorer last season, has been strongly linked with a move to either Milan or Barcelona.

Lehmann, who left Arsenal in the summer, believes the striker would rue an exit in time, citing the struggles encountered by stalwarts such as Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Nicolas Anelka to find their best form since leaving the London club.

"If you look at every player who's left Arsenal, they've not managed to shine at their new club," said Lehmann.

"It's wrong to write off Arsenal. Everyone did so last season and we nearly won the League."

Thuram retires from football

Former France defender Lilian Thuram announced his retirement from football yesterday.

Thuram, 36, had expected to join French Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain on a one-year deal before a heart problem was spotted during a medical examination last June.

A member of France's 1998 World Cup-winning team, Thuram had already announced his international retirement after the country's group-stage exit from Euro 2008.

Zanetti extends Inter deal

Javier Zanetti will see out his career at Inter after agreeing to extend his contract until 2011.

The Argentine joined the Serie A champions in the summer of 1995 and has played a staggering 593 games for Inter - 427 in Serie A, 111 in Europe and 55 in the Coppa Italia.

After guiding his side to the scudetto last term, Zanetti has been rewarded with an extension that will tie him to Inter until he is just two months short of his 38th birthday.

Ronaldo's United return set for Tuesday

Man. United winger Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to link up with his team-mates at the club's Carrington training ground next Tuesday, despite frenzied speculation in Spain that the Portuguese remains determined to push through a transfer to Real Madrid.

Reports in Spain suggest that Ronaldo, who is recovering from ankle surgery, has informed Real Madrid, via his agent Jorge Mendes, that he will tell Sir Alex Ferguson, who he met for face-to-face talks in Lisbon last month, of his intention to leave United.

The English champions have declined to comment.

Chelsea still on Robinho's trail

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has confirmed that the Blues are still keen on signing Robinho from Real Madrid.

"One of the key issues over buying Robinho has always been that Real Madrid are looking for a replacement," the Blues chief executive told the club's website.

"It is fair to say that is what has been holding up discussions between the two clubs. It has not progressed over the last couple of days, but the window is open until August 31 so there is still time."
