Jens Lehmann, now at Stuttgart, told reporters he is still not out of the running for a berth in the 2010 World Cup squad in South Africa.

Lehmann, 39, left Arsenal this summer to return to the Bundesliga. He was expected to announce his retirement from international football after Euro 2008.

"I will discuss the 2010 issue in the near future with the Germany coach," Lehmann said.

Windsor Park project

Plans have been drawn for Windsor Park, home of Linfield and the Northern Ireland national team, to be turned in a 22,000 capacity ground capable of retaining international football.

A big question mark has been placed over Windsor Park's future suitability for internationals because of health and safety issues.

Doubts over the mooted Maze Stadium project means that the Irish FA has been left with major concerns over where Northern Ireland home games will be played in the future.

Penalty miss forgotten

Antonio Di Natale said he has put June's Euro 2008 penalty miss against Spain behind him. The Udinese hitman was one of two Italy players to miss penalties in the quarter-final shoot-out which eventual champions Spain won.

Di Natale said: "I feel calm and collected. I realise I can't live off memories, obviously I look back at the good ones but like everyone I have to start from scratch again."

Di Natale has been at the centre of transfer speculation during the close season with some of Italy's top teams rumoured to be circling but the Italy international said he is going nowhere.

Chelsea not too old

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson suggested last week that Chelsea will not be in the title race next season as he sees no progress coming from a side in their 30s. Blues midfielder Michael Ballack, 31, is full of confidence though.

He said: "Our team can still improve. If you are 30 or 31 you are not old. Claude Makelele was 34 and played well last season. This sort of banter occurs between people during the summer."

Ballack has recently joined up with the Chelsea squad, on tour in the Far East, and new manager Luiz Felipe Scolari.

"We have only talked for a few minutes but he is a nice person," Ballack said. "He is a successful coach and that is why he is here."

Aquilani not for sale - Roma

Roma made it clear yesterday that Alberto Aquilani is "not for sale" notwithstanding an interesting offer from Serie A rivals Juventus.

"Juventus tried to enquire about him in the correct way when Giovanni Cobolli Gigli asked Rosella Sensi, but he's not going anywhere," director of sport Daniele Prade told Sky Italia.

"The Sensi family has made it clear... Aquilani is not for sale."

Aquilani's contract expires in 2010 and negotiations for an extension are ongoing.

Roma were at the centre of another transfer saga last week, as Adrian Mutu had his bags packed before Fiorentina pulled the plug on a €23m move.

"Mutu was a Roma player in every way," Prade said. "He had agreed economic terms with us. It was all confirmed, then the whole thing just collapsed."

Drogba to make decision

Didier Drogba will make a decision on his future this week. Many reckon the 30-year-old Ivorian will stay at Chelsea but Milan and Barcelona are showing keen interest in the striker.

Drogba did not travel with Chelsea for the pre-season tour of Asia, citing an injury as an excuse to his absence even though his move sparked rumours he is set for the exit.

His representatives are now to meet in London.

Drogba said: "This week will be key in terms of my future. And I am currently injured.

"People who say I am not don't know me at all because I always want to play.

"As for my future at Chelsea, well I have a contract with the club that is clear.

"But my agents will have a meeting and then it will be known once and for all."

Mourinho's style OK says Inter captain Zanetti

Javier Zanetti, the Inter captain, said he is impressed with Jose Mourinho's style of training.

Mourinho, who joined the Italy champions last month, is famous for his strict discipline and meticulous preparation during practising time.

Zanetti said: "He talks a lot with everyone, the work we're doing is really rewarding even if we can and we want to improve. We're really happy about the type of work he's introduced and we hope it will deliver the results everyone's hoping for."

Zanetti is hoping that Inter, winners of the last three league titles, can maintain their supremacy in Italy.

"We hope to have a lot of continuity especially in the championship, which is very long. As for our rivals, all the matches will be difficult.

"We start with a tough away trip (to Sampdoria) but we'll be in good shape when we get there."
