Celtic midfielder Aiden McGeady was named Scotland's Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year by the Professional Footballers' Association.

The Ireland international is only the second player to win both awards voted for by fellow professionals after former team-mate Shaun Maloney became the first in 2006.

Billy Reid won the prize for Manager of the Year after guiding Hamilton Academicals into the Premier League and there was also a Special Merit award for the late Motherwell captain Phil O'Donnell.

Koeman future uncertain

Ronald Koeman's future as Valencia coach is hanging in the balance after a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Athletic Bilbao left his team just two points above the relegation zone with five games to play.

Valencia are expected to hold a board meeting to discuss the future of the 45-year-old Dutchman, who led his side to victory in the King's Cup last week.

"The truth is this defeat didn't enter into our plans," club president Agustin Morera told reporters after the loss at Bilbao. "But we have to remain calm and consider our options."

Strip Maradona of titles - Pele

Pele has called for Diego Maradona to be stripped of his many titles.

Argentina hero Maradona had a glittering but controversial career marred by persistent drug abuse. However, he is still adored in Napoli where he led the team through a golden era, inspiring them to two league titles, a Coppa Italia and UEFA Cup in the 1980s.

"Maradona should lose every one of the titles he ever won," Pele said in an interview.

"Why? Because of his positive results for doping. Why should he keep his medals when so many Olympians who fail drugs tests lose theirs?"

Eriksson dismisses rumours

Sven-Goran Eriksson has played down talk of losing his job and said he expected to still be Manchester City's manager next season.

Eriksson was talking after his team beat Portsmouth 3-1 in the English Premier League on Sunday and before a meeting with the club's billionaire owner Thaksin Shinawatra next week.

Eriksson said: "I have been around too long to be worried about things like that. Am I worried that I still have a job? No, I'm not worried at all, absolutely not.

"I think I will be sitting here in this chair next season."

Birmingham co-owner 'raped'

David Sullivan, the co-owner of Premier League club Birmingham City, said he felt like he had been personally violated by police after being arrested as part of an investigation into corruption in soccer. Sullivan said the police's actions were unnecessary.

Sullivan, 59, said: "While they were questioning me, they sneakily sent teams here with search warrants to turn my house upside down. It makes you feel like you have been invaded or almost rather raped really."

No offer to buy Roma

The majority shareholder of Italian club Roma yesterday denied press reports it had begun procedures to sell its controlling stake.

Newspapers have reported that Italpetroli SpA, linked to the Sensi family, was considering selling its controlling stake in AS Roma to US billionaire investor George Soros or to the royal family of the UAE.

"No offer has been formalised from a foreign investor or from others whom the press has suggested as potential buyers," Italpetroli said.

Huckerby facing Norwich exit

Darren Huckerby expects to leave Norwich City at the end of the season. The winger's Carrow Road contract expires in the summer and so far no new deal has been agreed.

"It looks like I will be leaving, but that's life," Huckerby said.

The 31-year-old has twice been named the club's player of the year after joining from Manchester City in 2003. Huckerby looks set to make his final Carrow Road appearance against QPR on Saturday.

Lengthy talks for Ronaldinho

Adriano Galliani, the Milan vice-president, anticipates a long negotiation process to bring Ronaldinho to Italy this summer from Barcelona. Milan are in pole position to acquire the playmaker but will have to substantially increase their offer, reports said.

"We are negotiating with Barcelona for the acquisition of two players, Ronaldinho and Gianluca Zambrotta," Galliani said.

"At this time there is a big margin in terms of figures between our offer and their demands. Hence, we expect a long negotiation process."

Players robbed at St Mary's

£2,500 in cash was stolen from the dressing rooms at St Mary's in a Championship match between Southampton and Burnley on Saturday.

Five home and nine away players had cash stolen from their belongings in the changing rooms during the second half of the match.

Club officials, security staff and stewards were helping police with their inquires. Police said there did not appear to be any witnesses to the thefts, which took place sometime after the second half started.
