Dimitar Berbatov's agent has claimed that he has "given up" discussing a new contract for the striker with Tottenham.

"His (Berbatov's) future will be decided in the next couple of months," Emil Dantchev said.

"We have twice given up talks about Berbatov's new contract and this is due to the fact that Tottenham are unwilling to fix Berbatov's transfer price."

Berbatov, who is a target for a host of leading European clubs, has two years remaining on his present deal at White Hart Lane.

Grant covets Kaka, Messi

Chelsea manager Avram Grant is keen to bring Milan playmaker Kaka and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

"We want to be more consistent and of course I need players who can help with this," Grant said.

"Will it take a flair player like Kaka or Messi? I will not reject that one of those names will be here. Will they come? I think so, yes. This is a big club."

Barca delay Ronaldinho's decision

Barcelona have indicated Ronaldinho's future at the club will not be decided until the end of the season.

The Brazilian playmaker, who is currently recovering from a thigh injury, looks set to leave the Nou Camp in the summer. Milan and Inter have already declared their interest in signing the former World Player of the Year.

But Barcelona board member Albert Perrin said: "At the moment we're concentrating on the competitions in hand. We're not interested in listening to offers. The reality is, at the moment, that he is a Barcelona player and I hope he will be playing for us in the Champions League final."

Arsenal to join chase for Amauri

Arsenal are set to join the chase for Palermo striker Amauri, according to reports in Italy. Palermo recently announced that they were prepared to sell the Brazilian-born forward, who is considering playing for Italy, and Juventus immediately emerged as favourites to sign him.

However, Palermo are said to be willing to consider offers from other clubs and that has alerted Arsenal. It is claimed the Gunners have made Amauri's representatives aware that they would be willing to pay him €4 million.

Pato injury baffles doctors

Alexandre Pato continues to be hampered by a mysterious muscular injury that has left the Milan doctors baffled.

Pato has been out of action since the start of the month and, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the medics have been unable to find the exact nature of the problem.

The Brazilian youngster has been complaining of pain in his adductor muscle and the doctors are puzzled as they have been unable to find any damage in tests.

Inter, Roma in war of words

Serie A leaders Inter and title rivals Roma are waging a war of words after Nerazzurri coach Roberto Mancini claimed that Francesco Totti should have been red-carded against Udinese last weekend for dissent.

Bruno Conti, Roma's assistant coach, was angered by Mancini's remarks and hit back with some barbed comments. "His ideas are somewhat confused," Conti said. "I think Mancini has far more serious problems with managing his own side as the insults he receives come from his own players."

Conti's outburst infuriated Mancini who replied: "I think that Conti was very rude because there was no need for certain comments."

Palladino quiet on future

Raffaele Palladino was among Juventus's scorers in the 3-0 win over Parma on Wednesday but he still refuses to rule out leaving Turin this summer.

Despite signing a contract extension earlier in the year, Palladino has stated his frustration at a lack of regular first-team football this term.

"It's nice to get a goal during a period when I haven't been playing much," Palladino stated. "Am I unsettled? No, but it's obvious that it is important for a young player to be getting games."

Lyon face Sedan in cup semis

Olympique Lyon will host second division Sedan and Paris St Germain visit second division Amiens in the French Cup semi-finals next month.

Ligue 1 leaders Lyon, chasing their first League and Cup double, were handed the home tie in yesterday's draw after going through with a 1-0 quarter-final win over Metz on Tuesday. Sedan advanced with an upset victory at Bordeaux where they won on penalties after a 0-0 draw on Wednesday.

Amiens beat fellow Ligue 2 side Dijon 1-0 while Ligue 1 strugglers PSG qualified with a 1-0 win over fifth division amateurs Carquefou.

Levante players threaten strike

The players of Primera Liga strugglers Levante said yesterday they would go on strike if the club do not meet a deadline to resolve the payment of debts owed to the squad.

"We have worked honourably and fought hard for a long time and have reached a unanimous decision that if there is no solution before the Recreativo Huelva game we will go on strike that weekend," defender Luis Rubiales, speaking for the squad, told a news conference.

The Valencia-based club are 15 points from safety at the foot of the standings with six games to go and scheduled to play Recreativo, who are only just above the relegation zone, away on the weekend of April 26-27.
