Juande Ramos was the ideal choice to take over as manager at Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Premier League club's Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov.

"He is the perfect man for this position," Berbatov said.

"He's talking to everyone in the team and he's trying to help anyone who seems to have a problem."

Ramos, 53, quit Sevilla last month to take over at White Hart Lane.

"I think he is a very good manager and a very nice person. He approaches everyone personally and it allows players to understand him much easier. Well, at least that's my first impression."

Ibrahimovic wins Sweden award

Inter's Zlatan Ibrahimovic won the Swedish Golden Ball award for footballer of the year on Monday. It was the 26-year-old striker's second Golden Ball. He won the award for the first time in 2005.

"I am incredibly proud to receive this a second time. It's not just my prize. It also belongs to my Swedish fans, especially all the kids out there," said Ibrahimovic.

Ibrahimovic has not scored for the Swedish national team for two years but has shown impressive club form for Inter, helping the side to the Serie A title last season while scoring 15 goals.

Hicks denies interest in Roma

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has denied any interest in Roma after media reports said the US sports tycoon was looking to build a stake in the Italian soccer club.

A spokeswoman for Liverpool said Hicks had told the English club that there was no truth in the rumour and he was not considering investing in Roma.

Roma shares, were down 7.18 per cent at 0.83 euros in Milan at 1240 GMT. On Monday, they briefly rose by nearly 10 per cent, forcing controlling shareholder Italpetroli to issue a statement saying it had been informed by a third party of possible interest from an unnamed US investor.

Cagliari sack coach Giampaolo

Serie A strugglers Cagliari have sacked coach Marco Giampaolo.

The Sardinians are hovering above the relegation zone but are on the same points as bottom club Empoli after winning just two games this term.

Later on in the day, former coach Nedo Sonetti was named as Giampaolo's replacement.

Siena also parted company with coach Andrea Mandorlini and brought in former manager Mario Beretta on Monday while fellow relegation candidates Livorno and Reggina have already changed coaches this season.

Players in trouble for sex abuse

Police have detained and questioned 12 current and former players of Swiss top division side FC Thun over allegations they had sex with an under-age girl.

Canton Berne police confirmed they had questioned the men yesterday along with nine others and carried out house searches.

The police statement said the men were believed to have had multiple contact with the then 15-year-old girl since the start of this year.

The girl has since turned 16, the age of consent in Switzerland.

Website in club takeover

Fans' community website MyFootballClub has agreed a deal to take over Blue Square Premier outfit Ebbsfleet United.

The 20,000 MyFootballClub members have each paid £35 to provide a £700,000 takeover pot and they will all own an equal share in the club.

Members will have a vote on transfers as well as player selection and all major decisions. The takeover is a landmark for English football, given the website's stated intention of involving the members so radically in the running of the club, particularly with team selection.

Jewell's no to Wigan return

Paul Jewell has ruled out a return to Wigan. Jewell, 43, who resigned at the end of the last season, was thought to be the preferred choice of the Latics after the sacking of Chris Hutchings.

He was approached by club owner Dave Whelan over the vacancy but decided against rejoining the club he guided to the top flight. It is understood terms between the parties were not discussed.

Jewell's decision leaves the Wigan position wide open with the club not thought to have a top target. Graeme Souness and Joe Royle are two other names to have been strongly linked with the position.

Rosicky won't join Inter

Tomas Rosicky's agent has denied the player is in line for a move to Inter. The Czech has been linked with a possible switch to Italy in January but Pavel Paska has dismissed such a suggestion.

He confirmed that Inter tried to sign Rosicky (picture) in 2005, and also last year before Arsenal landed him from Borussia Dortmund.

"I am ruling out this option," Paska said. "Inter wanted Tomas two years ago, something happened also a year ago. But to say now, this winter he could move there? No, that is absolutely untrue."

New dates for Serie A matches

Inter's home game with Lazio and Roma's match with Cagliari have been rearranged for December 5 after they were postponed on Sunday because of the fatal shooting of a Lazio fan by a policeman.

The two matches would kick off at 8.30 p.m. No decision has yet been taken on what to do with Atalanta's match with Milan, which was abandoned after seven minutes on Sunday.

The dates for the first legs of the Coppa Italia last 16 have also been finalised given the fixture upheaval with Empoli vs Juventus on Dec. 6, Ascoli vs Fiorentina on Dec. 11 and Cagliari vs Sampdoria on Dec. 12.

Lazio vs Napoli, Reggina vs Inter, Torino vs Roma and Udinese vs Palermo take place on Dec. 19 and Milan vs Catania on Dec. 20.
