The secretary of Vittoriosa FC was yesterday brought to court under arrest for throwing a street party after his team was promoted to the premier league.

Gerard Ellul, 39, admitted to holding the party without police permission but not before defence lawyer Edward Gatt voiced his utter disbelief at the fact that his client had been arraigned under arrest for a simple contravention.

"Just because he held a disco in front of the club doesn't merit him being arraigned under arrest," he said.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano saw the lighter side of things, saying that if his father were around, "he would have probably celebrated with you". He still fined him €116.

Vittoriosa Stars were promoted after beating Mosta 2-0 on Sunday and a street party kicked off at 8 p.m. and carried on until 11.
