An action plan addressing food waste was launched today.

The plan is to be integrated in the national educational waste management plan spread over three years, Sustainable Development Minister Leo Brincat said this morning.

Mr Brincat said the report’s recommendation of the report were the result of an independent working group he had appointed, chaired by Lisa Cassar Shaw, to address food waste generated in homes and commercial and catering establishments.

The report stresses the lack of information available about the subject, people’s wrong attitude, bad preferences in shopping and consumption, the need for better planning and labelling, food storage, packaging, portion sizes and other socio-economic factors.

Specific recommendations were made for commercial and catering establishments.

The report can be read in the pdf link below.
