My uncle is a resident at the Żejtun Home for the Elderly, where in the last couple of months things have gone from bad to worse, and may become unbearable unless something does not change shortly.
The problem is about the food served to residents.
For the last years, all residents were served good food in generous portions and, above all, the food was cooked at the premises.
But then it was decided that the food is to be cooked at the Mellieħa Home for the Elderly, and distributed to other localities from there.
So the Żejtun elderly's food is now being cooked in Mellieħa; this means that the food has to be heated at least twice before it is consumed in Żejtun, which means that its quality would have deteriorated.
Secondly, the portions, are now much smaller; and finally, and worst of all, many of the residents are unable to eat the food they are served, so that many end up eating nothing, and have to depend on their relatives for food. This situation is intolerable to say the least, and needs to be addressed quickly.
Needless to say, for these elderly residents food is important and they are entitled to a good service.
