A total 506kg of food and food contact materials were destroyed by the Health Inspectorate last month.

This included 315kg of frozen drumsticks due to an issue with their durability date, 120kg of plastic bags for food use without proper certification, 55kg of meat and meat products due to lack of traceability 9.8kg of sausages due to labelling irregularities; and 6kg of food ingredients following an alert.

The inspectorate said that, in October, 35 adverts involving tobacco products and electronic cigarettes in breach of Tobacco (Smoking Control) Act were noticed on local sites and the respective advertisers and webmasters were instructed to remove.

One advert of tattoo equipment was also noticed in contravention of the Control of Tattooing Act.

Nine contraventions were issued/processed, seven of which were related to food safety issues.

Two emergency control orders were issued - one to a butcher for preparing foodstuffs without the necessary permission; and the other to the owner of a residence that was preparing foodstuffs for commercial purposes.

A total 740 complaints were lodged.
