A standalone bank cash machine in Qawra was the target of a foiled theft on Friday night.
Bank of Valletta did not provide information about the attempted theft other than to say that the security system foiled the offenders and no cash was stolen.
Sources said the would-be thieves made their way into a vacant property adjacent to the machine and tried to bore a hole into the ATM. A burglar alarm went off and the attempt was abandoned.
BoV said the ATM was emptied of cash yesterday morning while police investigated. The machine is undergoing repairs.
The bank said customers may obtain service from the ATM installed recently at the Buġibba branch in Triq il-Ħalel.
