Earlier this month, the FOI, through its Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Sector Group and the Malta Qualified Persons Association (MQPA), submitted their joint comments and recommendations to the Medicines Authority on the draft amendments to the Medicines Act 2003, currently under consultation.

The FOI and the MQPA were pleased to note that the amendments to the Act were being proposed with the specific purpose of aligning the Medicines Act with Directive 2001/83/EC as amended by Directive 2004/27/EC.

Nevertheless, the two bodies expressed the opinion that there were a number of instances in which the directive would not be transposed effectively through the proposed amendments, and the submissions were aimed to draw the authority's attention to these instances.
