Floriana and Tarxien Rainbows booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FA trophy with easy wins against Division Two side Birżebbuġa St Peter and Division One Għargħur respectively.

Floriana had no difficulty coasting through to the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy with a 5-0 success over Birżebbuġa St Peters in a one-sided match at the Centenary Stadium.

The tie was good as over inside the first 10 minutes when Nicolas Chiesa and Maurizio Vella gave the Greens a two-goal cushion that set them on their way to an easy passage to the next round. Substitute Mario Fontanella scored a brace to put further gloss on his team’s trouble-free passage to the next stage to host the winner from the all-Gozo clash between Victoria H./Għajnsielem.

As expected, Tarxien Rainbows cruised into the quarter-final of the FA Trophy following an emphatic 6-0 win over Division One strugglers Għargħur.

Although the scoreline indicated the gulf that exists between the two sides, in reality this tie was little more than a boring encounter. Tarxien dominated play for long stretched and Għargħur had no option but to defend for lengthy spells.

Alves Alves scored a brace as goals from Alex Nilsson, Matthew Tabone and Julian Galea added gloss to the Tarxien victory.
