Floriana 4; Naxxar 0

Floriana broke little sweat to overcome the challenge of Naxxar Lions 4-0 in a one-sided encounter at the Tedesco Stadium.

Nicolas Chiesa put Floriana ahead on 20 minutes. The Argentine midfielder controlled a short clearance by the Naxxar defence and let fly and firm drive that flew into the bottom corner of the net.

On 25 minutes, Mario Fontanella evaded his marker before hitting a curling drive that flew just wide.

Four minutes later Eduardo Vallecillo should have pulled Naxxar level when the Spanish striker was played in by Duane Bonnici but he incredibly miscued his shot with only goalkeeper Matthew Calleja Cremona to beat.

The Greens doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time when Matteo Piciollo’s shot was blocked with the ball falling to Steve Pisani who hit a thundering drive that flew into the roof of the net.

On the restart, Naxxar tried to step up their game and on 53 minutes Andrew Scicluna was first to Jurgen Debono’s cross but his shot on the turn finished just wide.

Floriana made it 3-0 on 74 minutes when Fontanella ran to meet Monticelli’s low cross to stab the ball past Gallinetta. Floriana sealed their win two minutes from time when substitute Daniel Agius fed Piciollo who turned past his marker before rifling his shot into the net.
Floriana midfielder Nicolas Chiesa was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
