Ex-Floriana FC players recently met for dinner at Ir-Rokna Restaurant, Paceville. The reunion was organised by former international footballer Anton Camilleri.

The night focused on football of yesteryear and the current football scene including a few dressing-room secrets.

Most of the former players are senior citizens and several of them are involved in running football nurseries or following the fortunes of their offsprings, some of whom have earned international recognition.

More than half the group had played for Malta like Joe Cini, Louis Arpa, George Ciantar, Edwin Farrugia, Anton Camilleri, Raymond and George Xuereb, Eddie Bonett, Joey Grima, Frankie Micallef and Alfred Debono.

Also present were Charles Brincat, a defender who emigrated to England but resettled in Malta after 40 years, and Ray Żażu Farrugia, who spent many years in Australia before returning to set up his school.

Former national coach Tony Formosa, whose spell at Floriana FC was characterised with 39 consecutive matches without a defeat, was also present.

Other players who formed part of the golden era of Floriana FC during the 1970s and who attended the event included Charles 'Tichy' Grech, two former goalkeepers Tony Borg and Michael Sultana, Robert Balani, Powey Micallef, Charles Bugeja and Eddie Bonett.
