The seventh mechanised ground fireworks is being held by the Floriana council on April 13 from 10.30pm.

Mayor Nigel Holland told a news conference there would 30 large structures from which fireworks would be ignited creating beautiful shapes.

Maximum safety precautions would be taken in line with what the police demanded, Mr Holland said adding that safety took up 70 per cent of the budget and included the fire engines, ambulances and putting double barriers in place.

Tourism Minister Karmenu Vella said he had proposed to the Malta Tourism Authority to start advertising cultural events as a weekly calendar instead of highlighting specific festivities.

The minister said it would help if events could be planned two to three years beforehand to ensure they were given the right exposure when it came to advertising.
