FLORIANA-3, SLIEMA WANDERERS-1

Two goals inside the opening six minutes set Floriana on the way to a 3-1 victory over Sliema Wanderers in their final match of the season.

The game generally lacked intensity but the fifth-placed Floriana carried more attacking ammunition with Igor Coronado, Vito Plut and Matteo Piciollo all getting on the scoresheet.

Floriana raced into a two-goal inside the opening six minutes.

Igor Coronado was on hand to flick Douglas's shot past Sliema goalkeeper Sam Bartolo and, four minutes later, Vito Plut turned Coronado's cross into the net.
Sliema looked stunned. They tried to make a reaction. Michael Mifsud had two shots deflected away for a corner but Floriana remained the more dangerous side.

Mano Micallef sped clear on the left before picking out Plut but the latter's effort rolled across the face of goal before Djumo Bocar cleared.

Matteo Piciollo then hit a post from outside the penalty area.

Sliema should have narrowed the deficit four minutes from half-time. Mateus sprinted into the box before squaring to Pedrinho whose drive was easily saved by Senatore.

Early in the second half, Mateus's cross from the right rolled towards Mifsud but the Malta striker's effort was deflected by a defender.

Matthew Calleja Cremona, who had come on for Senatore, thwarted Sliema when keeping out Pedrinho's swerving cross-shot from a free-kick.

Sliema upped the pressure, Mifsud firing wide after receiving from Friggieri but the best chance came Floriana's 19 minutes from time.

Plut dallied his way past a host of Sliema players and into the box before releasing Piciollo who seemed to lose his balance as he was about to shoot.

With six minutes remaining, Calleja Cremona stopped an effort from Pedrinho.
But Floriana were the more menacing side going forward with Piciollo rifling high after running on to Coronado's pass.

In the first minute of stoppage time, Sliema got one back thanks to Mateus who hammered past Calleja Cremona after Pedrinho's shot was deflected into his path.

Hardly a minute passed and Floriana regained their two-goal lead thanks to Piciollo who rifled past Bartolo after running into the box to reach Mano Micallef's through-pass.

Plut was voted BOV player of the match.
