Floriana moved out of the relegation zone when they came from a goal down to over Mosta 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium today.

It was Floriana who were off to a strong start as they took the lead after only six minutes. Ricardo Faria picked Bojan Kaljevic inside the area and the Montenegrin forward’s astute backheel released Christian Fernandes who beat Floriana goalkeeper Daniel Handford with a low drive.

Floriana came back strongly and they managed to draw level on 17 minutes. They were awarded a free-kick from the edge of the area and Gary Muir let fly a curling strike that flew into the top corner of the net.

The match remained evenly poised for long stretches but Floriana looked a transformed side early in the second half.In fact on 50 minutes they scored what proved to be the winner.

Igor Coronado received possession on the left channel and he sped past Alex Cini before hitting past Mosta goalkeeper Omar Borg.Mosta, here threw more men forward but for all their possession they rarely tested the Greens.

Their best chance came in time added on when from a Faria corner-kick, the ball flashed across the face of goal as none of the Mosta players managed to make contact with the ball.

Floriana’s Igor Coronado was voted as the BOV Player of the Match.
