Floriana racked up their third successive league win after they dismantled Vittoriosa Stars to the tune of six goals to one at the National Stadium on Sunday.

Nigerian striker Daniel Nwoke and Ivan Woods were the catalyst of the Greens victory yesterday after notching a brace each to propel Floriana to temporary second place in the standings along with Tarxien Rainbows who were due to face leaders Valletta in the second match of the day.

Floriana were off to a strong start and they took the lead after 14 minutes when Nwoke latched to a Pablo Doffo free-kick and flicked the ball past Vittoriosa goalkeeper Simon Agius.

Nwoke struck again three minutes later when he released Woods on the left and the Malta international quickly returned the ball to his team-mate who easily despatched the ball past Agius.

Vittoriosa were stunned and on the stroke of half-time Woods added a third goal after heading home a Doffo free-kick.

On the change of ends Floriana continued to stretch their lead and on 47 minutes Dragomir Draganov curled the ball into the bottom corner to put the Greens 4-0 ahead before Woods struck again from a disputed penalty two minutes later.

Vittoriosa managed to pull one back on 74 minutes when Leighton Grech chipped the ball over Lofti Saidi. However, the Greens sealed the points nine minutes from time when Manolito Micallef lobbed the ball over Vittoriosa substitute goalkeeper Jean Vella.

Daniel Nwoke was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
