Floriana battled more than expected to overcome lowly St Andrew’s 3-1 at the Hibs Stadium.

It was St Andrew’s who took a surprise lead after only six minutes of play.

Enmy Pena Beltre was brought down in the area by Enrico Pepe and from the resultant penalty Joseph Farrugia drilled the ball past Matthew Calleja Cremona.

Floriana looked rattled and they took some time before starting to threaten the St Andrew’s goal.

On 33 minutes Juninho picked Fontanella who nodded the ball into the path of Piciollo and the Italian forward fired wide.

Three minutes later Jake Galea distinguished himself with a fine diving save on Juninho’s close-range header.

Floriana’s pressure finally yielded an equaliser two minutes from the break. From a free-kick action Juninho’s delivery was met by Chiesa who headed past Galea.

Two minutes into the second half Calleja Cremona dived full stretch to palm away Salomon Wisdom’s shot.

But gradually Floriana regained control and on 64 minutes Chiesa sent a dipping cross into the path of Fontanella who beat Galea witha  firm header.

Floriana wrapped up the points four minutes late rwhen Mauricio Villa, who had just replaced, Piciollo, stormed into the area and lobbed the ball over Galea.

Floriana striker Enrico chiesa was voted as the BOV Player of the Match.
