Floriana FC this afternoon apologised to their supporters and the Maltese people in general after having been defeated 8-0 in their home match against AEK Larnaca of Cyprus on Thursday.

The club said its committee held an urgent meeting this morning.

"The committee would like to inform the public that it is shouldering the responsibility and would like to offer an apology to all Floriana FC supporters and the Maltese sporting public in general.

"Although noting the strength of our opponents the committee understands that the result as well as the performance offered was disappointing. A number of shortcomings were noted and for this the committee is shouldering responsibility and offering and apology," the club said.

It added that club president Johann Said expected the MFA to call a meeting with the Floriana committee to discuss what happened. He would otherwise be requesting a meeting with the MFA President to give his account of what went wrong.

The club said that one of its main challenges for the future was to find a main sponsor. It promised to work relentlessly  to prepare in the best way possible for the forthcoming season.
