The floodlighting of the Grand Harbour and St Angelo, plus parts of Valletta, is very beautiful but surely a great deal of money could be saved if it were switched off at midnight or 1 a.m.

This money could be spent on restoration work or other worthwhile projects. The floodlighting may have an anti-theft aspect but street lighting for the remainder of the night should be sufficient in this respect.

We are frequently told about the Maltese deficit with regard to the EU regulations. This is one way to economise, which in one year should amount to a sizeable saving.
