An Air Malta plane cut its flight to Istanbul short and doubled back to Malta because of problems in an electrical generator.

The plane, an Airbus 319, was 50 minutes into its journey when the pilot decided to turn back as a precautionary measure. The flight had left at 5.50 a.m. An airline spokesman said engineers established there was a minor fault in the air conditioning system's power supply. The plane eventually took off at 9.30 a.m.
