Works on the replica of the Fleur-de-Lys arch, on the roundabout between Mdina Road and St Joseph High Street, reached their final stages last week. The archway will be officially called The Wignacourt Arch and known as the Fleur-de-Lys Gate. The choice of name caused a dispute between the local councils of Birkirkara and Santa Venera. The original archway was built in 1615 as a tribute to Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt.
