Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher is not ready to throw in the Barclays Premier League title towel just yet.

Trailing Chelsea by a point with two games to go, the Scotland international knows the Red Devils' quest for an unprecedented fourth successive league championship could be over before they tackle Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Carlo Ancelotti's men conclude their campaign against lowly Wigan at Stamford Bridge, so United are pinning their hopes on old rivals Liverpool to do them a favour at Anfield just before the Sunderland encounter begins.

Yet Fletcher, who was last Sunday named in the Professional Footballers' Association team of the year, is refusing to look on the bleak side.

After following up their last-gasp victory at Manchester City with another late salvo to beat Tottenham last week, the 26-year-old believes United can still complete their mission impossible.

"I really do," he stressed.

"We are relying on a favour from another team, which is not the best position to be in, but we are coming into form.

"We had that week where things didn't go well, against Blackburn and Bayern, and there was a real low in the squad.

"But we had to pick ourselves up. There was a conscious effort around the place not to feel sorry for ourselves. We couldn't afford to.

"We needed to put some pressure on Chelsea, which is what we have done."

Rio Ferdinand is expected to return to the heart of United's defence after a groin injury, while Wayne Rooney will be given every opportunity to overcome a similar problem.

Rooney's presence would present Ferguson with a selection dilemma given Dimitar Berbatov turned in an impressive performance against Spurs.

However, no matter what the personnel, Fletcher is confident United will retain their composure and refuse to panic - whatever the result at Anfield.

"You learn to thrive on pressure when you play for a massive club like Manchester United," he said.

"It is there in every game in every season. You learn how to deal with it and know what to expect when it comes.

"You learn not to get desperate and to keep playing the way you are taught to play."
