The highlight of yesterday's programme at the Marsa Racetrack was the Premier Class race. The 25th meeting of the season comprised 11 trotting races on the 2,140m distance.

Favourite Flash Coger, driven by Julian Farrugia, maintained its successful streak by winning the top race. It was a memorable afternoon for Farrugia and Charles Camilleri as these two drivers finished the meeting with three victories to their name.

The Premier race was contested by 10 trotters. Having led all the way, Flash Coger held off the charge of Bello Fratello (Anthony Spagnol) in the final 100 metres to retain first place. Kejser Flamingo (Charles Magro) and Socrates (James Briffa) finished third and fourth respectively.

The winner clocked an average of 1.15.5" per kilometre.

Yesterday's programme included two races for Gold Class trotters.

In the first race, Glory Cowboyland (Shaun Portelli) recorded its second win of the season after sprinting ahead of the field with 200m to go. This horse was half-a-length ahead of favourite Race Ball (Tony Demanuele), Lass John (Shaun Formosa) and Bodrero (Oliver Briffa) at the post.

In the second Gold race, Victory Toll (Farrugia) increased its pace 400m from the post to obtain its second win of the year. Charlie Smitt (Charlò Debono) had to settle for second place ahead of Biggles Coquet (Jason Vassallo) and Notice As (Carl Caruana).

A competition for ponies on a short distance of 1,200m, known as Tan-Niger Challenge Cup, marked the start of yesterday's racing programme. Paul Galea led Open Your Eyes to victory in this race.
