Amazon has withdrawn a hairdryer from its online store after a customer posted video showing how it worked a bit too well for safety.

In the video, the Oracorp hairdryer can be seen shooting out flames and smoke.

The South Carolina customer said the flame-spitting device had caused her "a small burn on my hand and an enormous smell to my master bath" and that while Amazon had refunded her, she had not yet heard back from the manufacturer.

"Talk about a bad hair day! My new hair dryer (more like hair frier)....became a blow torch on its first use this morning," she wrote on Facebook last Monday.

The flames had continued even after she unplugged the device from its electricity socket, she told friends, and only subsided after she ran the hairdryer under running water in the sink.
