A man and a woman were critically injured early this morning when their car crashed into a wall in Zurrieq. Another three people were injured.

The incident happened at about 3 a.m. in Valletta Road as the car, a Peugeot 306 was being driven out of Zurrieq.

At the wheel was a 19-year-old man from Zurrieq. He was accompanied by a 17-year-old boy and a 22-year old man from Zurrieq and two 16-year-old girls, from Zurrieq and Zejtun.

Rescuers from the Civil Protection Department had to be called to assist the injured out of the wreckage. First aid was given by a medical team.

The driver and the 16-year-old girl from Zejtun were found to be critically injured. The other passengers were less seriously hurt.
