Five doctors working in the health sector have filed a judicial protest against their own union, saying they were being discriminated against in a new collective agreement.

Mario Grixti, Mario Vella, Antonia Mizzi, Marcel Martinelli and Anthony Livori filed the protest against the Medical Association of Malta and the permanent secretary in the Health Ministry.

The doctors, who are principal general practitioners, complained the new collective agreement was “seriously compromising” their career as there were no incentives for them to continue studying.

The union had failed to protect their interests, they said.

They called on the union and health department to immediately rectify the situation and reserved the right to take further legal action.

The protest was signed by lawyer Ian Spiteri Bailey.
