Five people are dead in southeast Queensland in Australia after their cars were swept away by flash floods.

The deceased were three men, one woman and a five-year-old boy.

Meteorologists said more than 360 millimeters of rain fell in about a three hour period.

Police warned drivers to stay off the road. 

Police say about 30 other people were rescued from their cars after being stranded north of Brisbane.
