Real Madrid will aim to reduce the 11-point gap to LaLiga leaders Barcelona when they meet at the Bernabeu this weekend.

The latest El Clasico clash comes after Real won the FIFA Club World Cup final in Abu Dhabi, yet closer to home the reigning domestic champions in Spain are playing catch-up to their great rivals.

Here Press Association Sport looks at some of the most memorable fixtures between the two clubs.

Real Madrid 5 Barcelona 0 - LaLiga, January 7, 1995

Nearly a year to the day since they were thumped 5-0 by the same side, Real exacted revenge in the Spanish capital. Chilean Ivan Zamorano grabbed a hat-trick in the first half, completing his treble having been set up by ex-Barca forward Michael Laudrup, who had crossed the Clasico divide over the summer. Luis Enrique, later a manager of Barcelona, scored the fourth and Jose Amavisca completed the rout in a season where Real won the title having seen Barca lift it for the previous four campaigns in a row.

Barcelona 3 Real Madrid 3 - LaLiga, March 10, 2007

This was the season when Lionel Messi's greatness first came to the fore and, aged just 19, he would claim his maiden hat-trick. Two of his three goals came inside the opening half-an-hour, bringing Barca back on level terms after a pair of Ruud van Nistelrooy strikes. Oleguer's dismissal before half-time gave Real hope and they led again when Sergio Ramos flicked home Guti's free-kick. However, Messi would have the final say as he fired in his third of the night in stoppage time to ensure a thrilling contest ended all square.

Real Madrid 4 Barcelona 1 - LaLiga, May 7, 2008

Having given their foes a guard of honour onto the Bernabeu pitch, Barca's humiliation continued against newly-crowned champions Real. Raul, Arjen Robben, Gonzalo Higuain and Van Nistelrooy all scored as Real celebrated winning back-to-back titles by trouncing Frank Rijkaard's Barcelona. A Thierry Henry consolation was followed by Xavi's late dismissal in one of the final matches of Rijkaard's reign before Barca opted to replace the Dutchman with Pep Guardiola, who ushered in a period of dominance.

Barcelona 5 Real Madrid 0 - LaLiga, November 29, 2010

The first of five meetings between the two that season resulted in the heaviest defeat of Jose Mourinho's managerial career. Guardiola's Barca would be called "the best team we have ever played" by then-Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson six months later, and this was one of their greatest performances. A fifth successive El Clasico victory in LaLiga under Guardiola was delivered in emphatic fashion by a David Villa brace and goals from Xavi, Pedro and Jeffren. The win came amid a run of 10 straight Barcelonavictories, during which they scored 42 times.

Real Madrid 2 Barcelona 3 - LaLiga, April 23, 2017

Seven years on and the balance of power had shifted in a campaign where Real secured a LaLiga and Champions League double, yet this day would belong to Barcelona and Messi. The Argentinian had not scored in six Clasicos but cancelled out Casemiro's opener. Ivan Rakitic restored the visitors' lead only for James Rodriguez to reply for the 10 men five minutes from time. There was to be one final twist as Messi scored a stoppage-time winner, his 500th goal for the club, and celebrated by holding up the name on the back of his shirt to the home support.
