The AFM early this morning resumed its helicopter rescue of a 63-year old fisherman who was bitten by an eel while on a fishing boat almost 94 nautical miles off Malta.

The operation, by an Italian Military Mission AB 212 helicopter, had to be called off last night because of poor weather conditions. The helicopter had a joint Italian-Maltese crew.

An AFM helicopter returned to the boat this morning. The boat had meanwhile approached to 60 miles off Malta.

The injured fisherman is John Carabott, a Gozitan.

He is part of the crew on board the "Giovanni Padre".
