The first two applications for parole have been approved, the Home Affairs Ministry said.

It said in a statement parole will effectively start next week.

Although the law was enacted a year-and-a-half ago, it could not be implemented without the necessary structures.

The Home Affairs Ministry said the government worked for the law to be made effective for the benefit of society and for the rehabilitation of prisoners.

Those committing a crime while on parole would have to carry out the remaining part of their sentence without remission, the ministry said.
