A class of children from Għargħur Primary School received their achievement diplomas for attending a development drama course sponsored by the NGO Drama Outreach (DO) Project and the Helen O’Grady Academy.
Titled Do Malta, the course followed the Helen O’Grady Academy curriculum, which offers participants as young as three years up to adulthood a developmental programme designed to increase confidence, self-esteem, communicative ability and creative talents.
For the past two years Do Project has been taking this programme to the children of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The course helps rekindle in them the childhood zest needed for healthy development. It teaches children to use their imagination and play. Quite simply it teaches them to be children and gives them a short escape from the dreary reality surrounding them.
Happy with the success of the pro-ject in Cambodia, the NGO was keen to launch a project in Malta. The Għargħur school was identified for this pilot project.
Do Project will be returning to Phnom Penh in the summer and hopes to launch another Do Malta project in the near future.
