The first phase of the Cittadella masterplan project has been conlcuded, the Gozo Ministry said.

The information gathered over the past year includes details on military architecture, archaeology, flora and fauna, land use, traffic, tourism, and site management.

Consultation meetings were held with organisations and people who had an interest in the site and the public could comment electronically.

The masterplan is co-financed by the European Economic Area and should be concluded within six months.

Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono said it would be proposing measures of how to preserve the site, making the best use of its potential.

The Cittadella, she said, was also benefitting from another project co-financed by the European Union. This will be restoring and consolidating its walls.
