Drivers will start using two new slip roads built for the Kappara project from tonight, as the east side of the project has been practically completed.
Vehicles coming from St Julian's going towards University roundabout will start using the newly built slip roads, instead of the current temporary arrangement, and will be able to access Sliema Road once again.
The project has seen the first layer of asphalt and painted temporary road markings on the slip roads. A further two layers of asphalt will eventually be laid when the project is finalised, Transport Malta said.
During these past months, workers have cleared the east area of the site, built supporting walls for a wider road, placed new services and constructed two slip roads. The works will now focus on the central part of the site, where the bridge will be constructed.
The contractor will construct the final supporting piers, install steel girders constructed in Spain and form the road on top of the flyover.
From 1pm today, vehicles coming from St Julian's will be diverted onto Triq Reggie Miller, until the new traffic arrangements are implemented.
Transport Malta stressed that the area remains a construction site with a speed limit of 30Km per hour.
