President of Malta, Marie Louise Coleiro Preca launched the first fun run in aid of L-Istrina 2014 in Gozo. This fun run was organised by volunteers of the Malta Community Chest Fund, Gozo with the coordination of Gozo MCCF representative, Dr Lisa Brooke.

The walk, attended by around 250 people, started from the General Hospital in Gozo and continued to the Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary and back.

Speaking before the event President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca thanked all those who were vital in the organisation of this walk and also thanked all those who attended and have contributed to such a noble cause.

She explained that currently the Malta Community Chest Fund is in the process of paying out some two hundred thousand euros every four weeks on specialised chemotherapy and medicines for the treatment of chronic diseases. The President reiterated that despite this we need not be discouraged because as we have seen people always unite together when needed, especially when it is to help our brothers who need assistance.

The President said she is convinced that in the few remaining days, with the planned events and activities, the MCCF will be able to have enough funds for 2015. The President of Malta also expressed the wish that, next year, when organising the Fun Run and Fun Walk in Gozo, people from Malta take the trip to the sister island and participate in the event the same way Gozitans make the trip for the Malta Fun Run.
