Residents of a number of apartments in Tower Road, Sliema were evacuated as a precautionary measure today after fire broke out in a section of one of the apartments in the ground floor and spread.

The blaze is believed to have started from a tumble dryer.

Some of the residents could not make it to the main door and were evacuated on fire fighters' ladders.

No one was injured although a medical team was at hand to help people who suffered smoke inhalation.
