A man who was arrested following a burglary from a house in Zebbug was also accused of a burglary in Mgarr after his fingerprint was found on a jewellery box, a court was told today.

Josef Buttigieg, 22 of Mellieha, stands accused of stealing jewellery worth several thousand euro from the house in Zebbug, as well as jewellery and cash with a total value of €7,000 from a house in Mgarr.

Inspector James Grech told the court that while the accused was being questioned in connection with the burglary in Zebbug, investigators found that his fingerprint was a perfect match with a print found on a jewellery box in a house in Mgarr.

Another man admitted his involvement in both burglaries and is undergoing separate proceedings.

Bail was denied.
