A 30-year-old man got off the bus halfway through his journey, peed near a bus stop as passengers watched and then tried to get back on board, a court heard yesterday.

Jibril Ismail Jibril, a Somali who lives in Gozo, was conditionally discharged for a year and fined €100 after he admitted to offending public morals on Monday morning.

He was travelling from Ċirkewwa to Valletta when, during the trip, he needed to go to the toilet, sources said. When the bus arrived in St Andrew’s, at about 9.10am, he could not resists any longer and so got off the bus and relieved himself near the bus stop, to the dismay of other passengers who were getting on and off the bus.

He then tried to get back on board to proceed to Valletta but was stopped by the bus driver, who called the police.

Mr Jibril told Magistrate Audrey Demicoli yesterday that he was sorry for what he had done and that, next time, he would wait until he got to a toilet when nature called.

Police Inspector Trevor Micallef prosecuted. Legal aid lawyer Noel Bartolo acted as defence counsel.
