A 23-year-old man from St Paul's Bay was fined €500 after he pleaded guilty to assaulting two plainclothes police officers during a drunken rage in Paceville.

The incident took place on September 7, 2013.

The court heard how Christian Zammit tripped on a table at a bar and a fight broke out. When the police officers intervened to calm the situation, he assaulted them and threatened them. Even when he was held in a police van, Mr Zammit continued being rowdy.

Before Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera, Mr Zammit pleaded guilty to assaulting Police Constables Brendon Gauci and Anthony Camilleri, threatening them and breaching the peace.

The court noted his criminal record which only had one conviction over an involuntary death in 2010, for which he was placed on probation for two years. She therefore fined him €500.

Police Inspector Daryl Borg prosecuted while lawyer Lucio Sciriha appeared for the man.
