A 22-year-old security officer from Zejtun has been condemned to a two-year jail term suspended for four years and fined €4,000 after being being convicted of slightly injuring two people and damaging three cars while drunk driving. He was also banned from driving for six months.

The incident happened on Sunday at 7 p.m. in Birzebbuga.

The security officer also admitted to driving his Honda Civic dangerously and at speed, failing to stop at the scene of the accident, violently resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and swearing in public.

The case was discussed at the bench between the prosecutors and defence lawyers before the accused pleaded guilty and the court delivered sentence.

The court ordered a ban on the name of the accused and the company he works for, without giving a reason.
