Kavallieri Blue Label 51
Overseas Hopleaf 21

Yet again, due to injuries and absences, Overseas could only find 13 players, many of these being young starters. However, this week they deserve respect for having taken the honourable decision to play on despite the disadvantage. On the whole, they gave a respectable performance.

Kavallieri started the game with great determination and vigour, as usual, but despite their numerical handicap, Overseas made them work hard.

The scoring was started by the inevitable Grima from a driving maul after a line-out, followed by another similar try by Nikolai Borg.

Grima then scored another try after a lucky bounce off the post following a speculative Sean Doublesin punt. Next up was Doublesin when Leoggoind broke away from full-back after fielding a kick out and timed a defence-splitting pass.

Ismail Borg scored after a 20-metre burst followed by Mangion.

Doublesin converted three times to bring Kavallieri to 36 at half-time, in answer to which Overseas could only manage a try and conversion after a characteristic interception by Newbould.

In the second half, Neil Galea scored a try and Borg scored another two, none of which were converted, As the game went on, Kavallieri wasted much possession by needless cross field running and Overseas manfully worked themselves back into the game with tries by Allen and Newbould, both converted by the ubiquitous Newbould.

Stompers TGIF 53
Alligators Cisk 5

Stompers began this game in high gear and immediately started to work the ball wide whenever possible. On the contrary, the less mobile Alligators did their best to keep the game tight with Adrian Hillman marshalling their defence from full-back.

Malcolm Attard opened the scoring after being put through by a Fountain break. Fountain, then, scored himself.

Alligators replied with a well organised try by Hillman, having moved the ball fast and wide after pressing from a ruck to the line.

Alligators resumed pressure but Attard intercepted to race away and score a try which he converted.

From then on, the Stompers really took control of the game, whenever they moved the ball about, relentlessly adding to their tally with tries by Camilleri, Diamantino, Mirabelli (2), Busuttil, Mifsud (2) and a penalty try when Collins was illegally impeded. There were three conversions to create an impressive winning margin.

Stompers have various promising lads in their ranks, particularly Philip Schembri, provided he can keep his bulk fit and trained over the next few years.
