Finance Minister Tonio Fenech is attending the Ecofin and Eurogroup meetings in Brussels.

The Eurogroup meeting will continue to discuss the financial situation and the second adjustment programme for Greece. The ministers will also discuss the strengthening of the European Financial Stability Facility and the European Stability Mechanism.

The Ecofin agenda includes a set of European Commission proposals on economic governance. The commission is also giving a presentation on the alert mechanism report, which is the first part of new economic and financial surveillance procedures in the EU.

In this report, Malta is placed with a restricted group of 11 countries from whom the Commission is not requesting a more detailed analyses on their macro-economic situation.

The ministers will also discuss the Council of Ministers recommendations for the 2013 budget as well as the EU's position for the G20 Financial Ministers meeting in Mexico later this week.
