The film Sous le Sable - Under the Sand by Francois Ozon, starring Charlotte Rampling, Bruno Cremer, and Jacques Nolot, will be shown next Wednesday at 8.30 p.m. at Erin Serracino Inglott Hall, on campus.

Marie (Rampling), a professor of English literature in a Paris university, has been happily married to Jean for 25 years, although they have no children. One summer holiday Jean leaves Marie sunbathing on the beach and goes for a swim. Waking from a doze, she cannot find Jean. Has he left her? Committed suicide? Drowned?

With no clue and no body to mourn over, Marie acts as though her husband was still alive, descending into confusion and denial as she retreats into her own world. Ozon's sensitive and imaginative handling of the story is matched by Charlotte Rampling's deeply melancholic and vulnerable performance as a woman whose grief is utterly believable.
