British filmmaker Michael Winner, who directed Charles Bronson in the 1974 thriller "Death Wish", has died aged 77, the BBC reported.

Last summer Winner, best known in Britain in recent years for his newspaper columns, revealed that liver specialists had given him 18 months to live.

His personal assistant said she had no comment to make on the report.
